Inspiring presentations, meaningful dialogue, a successful conference – CEA 2026
Between 23 and 25 April 2026, the 22nd Conference on Educational Assessment (CEA 2026) was held in Szeged, at the Headquarters of the Szeged Regional Committee of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. The conference was organised by the Institute of Education and the Doctoral School of Education of the University of Szeged, together with the Education Theory Working Committee of the Szeged Regional Committee of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, with the support of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
The conference chair was our colleague Edit Tóth, and the conference secretary was Fanni Bíró.
Continuing a professional tradition that has been built since 2003, the conference once again provided a forum for scholarly dialogue among Hungarian and international researchers in the field of educational assessment.
The programme placed particular emphasis on current issues in educational assessment, including digitalisation, the educational applications of artificial intelligence, adaptive assessment, as well as equity, inclusiveness, and assessment practices that support learning.
The plenary speaker of the conference was Ronny Scherer from the University of Oslo. His presentation focused on the possibilities of integrating different sources of research data, particularly meta-analyses and large-scale international assessments. As a new format, the programme also featured a roundtable discussion examining the impact of generative artificial intelligence on education, with particular attention to the changing concept of knowledge and the new challenges it poses for understanding, interpretation, critical thinking, and evaluation.
